Trident Seafoods, the largest processing plant in North America, is located in Akutan on a volcanic Aleutian Island 1,700 miles north of Seattle and 35 miles from Unalaska/Dutch Harbor. The plant processes pollock, crab, halibut, surimi and other species harvested from the Bering Sea. All of these videos and most of the photographs were taken in June 2008.

Ingredients
1 tbsp groundnut oil
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
6-8 cooked langoustines (or other large prawns)
1 tsp Shaoxing rice wine
150g/5oz fresh samphire, woody stems removed, or marsh samphire, preserved in brine
150g/5oz baby leeks, trimmed
2 spring onions, trimmed and cut into 4cm/2in pieces
1 tsp light soy sauce
sea salt, to taste
Method
1. Heat a wok until smoking and add the groundnut oil. Add the garlic and stir fry for a few seconds.
2. Add the Dublin Bay prawns and stir fry for 1-2 minutes, then add the Shaoxing rice wine and cook for another few seconds. Stir in the fresh samphire, then add the leeks and spring onions. Stir fry for one minute, then season, to taste, with the light soy sauce and sea salt.
3. To serve, spoon onto a serving plate and drizzle over any remaining juices from the wok.
Ching makes a dish that’s great for when you’ve got guests: use garlic chives instead of preserved samphire if necessary

Housing Stimulus Not a Fishing Story
A first time homebuyer tax credit is available in the amount of $8,000. We here at Big Daddy’s Seafood want to catch some of that! Everybody down the bayou are excited about this real estate stimulus effort. There are income limits for this plan. Income limits at this stage are $125,000 for single persons, $225,000 for married couples this also includes a $20,000 phase out of the credit for both.
Set the hook now because there will be no future extensions so the federal government is urging all qualified homebuyers to take action and put a written, binding contract in place. This is for individuals who have not owned a home in the last three years. The deadline is April 30, 2010 and closing is expected to take place before June 30, 2010.
Also included in this opportunity are homeowners who have lived in a current home for at least five consecutive years of the last 8 years. These individuals can receive up to a $6,500 tax credit. The hope is that this housing stimulus will help enhance the real estate market and help would be home owners into a new home they might otherwise not be able to swing..
According to The National Association of Realtors News Release, dated 11/5/09, already added to the general economy resulting from the real estate stimulus bill is an estimated $22 billion.
