What are the best days to buy seafood from the grocery store? When is it the freshest?
I saw this in one of anthony bourdain’s books. he says tuesday is the best day to buy fish because most fish is caught on late sundays/early mondays, sent to the distributors on monday, and delivered to your store/restauraunt on tuesday morning. a lot of people might ask, "well don’t stores/restaurants get deliveries on mondays?" well, yes they do but you have to remember the distributor is cleaning out his frige, too. so on a monday, you would most likely get the old stock from the previous thursday or friday.
ask them how fresh it is when you go

I agree, the stores sell off their older merchandise on Mondays. I’ve learned to buy crab legs on Sunday, they’re frozen, so freshness is not an issue. They are often marked down as much as half price at my store. The stores put out fresher seafood on Friday, for the weekend, when you are more likely to serve something fancy, or have a party.
