Betty’s Hearty and Healthy Seafood Bisque Recipe
In this video, Betty makes a Hearty and Healthy Seafood Bisque. This is an imitation of the soup that Rick ordered at Murray’s Restaurant at our Valentine’s dinner. This seafood bisque features mainly canned items, so it is very quick and easy to make. It contains canned shrimp, canned crab meat, cannned mushroon, celery, and tomato soups, along with some milk, parsley, minced onion, and seasonings. It tastes super!
Ingredients:
10.75-oz. can condensed cream of mushroom soup
10.75 oz. can condensed cream of celery soup
1/2 of a 10.75-oz. can of tomato soup
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (You may use 1/3 tablespoon dried parsley.)
1 tablespoon minced onion
4-oz. can small shrimp, drained and rinsed
6-oz. can crab meat, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper, to taste
In a large deep saucepan, combine 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can cream of celery soup, and 1/2 can tomato soup, 1 cup milk, 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, 1 tablespoon minced onion, 4-oz can small shrimp, 6-oz, can crab meat, 2 tablespoons butter, and salt and pepper, to taste. Heat through and serve immediately with saltine crackers or toasted bread. This is a great bisque! –Betty

I think you’re right; they’re not two separate entities, so you can just compare 870 mg versus 410 mg. thanks for noticing!

Hi!
It is not necessary to rinse either of the seafoods in this recipe. I did it because I didn’t want the seafood flavor to overpower the bisque ingredients. It’s just a matter of taste. Thanks for asking!

Hi Betty! — Thanks …
Hi Betty! — Thanks for responding to my comment as always. I imagine the reason that there is no measure of MSG on Campbells soup cans is because MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a type of sodium salt and it’s concentration in the volume of the soup is probably incorperated into the total sodium percentage specified on the can
This is certainly …
This is certainly healthy for a bisque (which is a cream soup). You can cut down on calories and fat by omitting the butter. Also, do without the crackers. The way I made it, the whole recipe has a total of 1,030 calories. I think it would make 6 generous servings, so that would be about 170 calories per serving. Omit the butter, and it’s 140. The recipe I made has 35 grams of fat. Omit the butter, and it has only 13 grams of fat, about 2 g per serving. I hope this helps!

I had some regular …
I had some regular cream of chicken soup and some Healthy Request cream of chicken soup in my pantry. The MSG amount is so small that there is no amount given for comparison. The regular had 870 mg sodium, while HR had 410 mg. For calories, the regular had 120, HR had 80. For fat, the regular had 8 gm, HR had 2.5 gm. For cholesterol, the regular had 10 mg, HR had 5 mg. I almost always use Healthy Request (or similar). I don’t know why I even had that one regular can in my pantry!

This is an awesome recipe. It’s proof that you CAN make bisques in a healthy way. I love a good lobster bisque, but it’s expensive and loads of work. Actually, a good bisque or chowder doesn’t have to be expensive or unhealthy. If you use the right ingredients, it can be just like the original and a bit healthier.

Hi betty, how many calories are there in this soup do you think? I try to stay away from all cream based soups, but you keep saying that this is healthy and the soup looks so good!!! It’s so attempting and hard to resist!! It would be nice if you can calculate the calories and put the info down in the side bar so that I know how much fat is in each serving!! Thanks!!1

Hi Betty, I’m wondering why you rinsed the seafood in this recipe. Doesn’t that rinse away some of the flavor?

Nicely done, thanks for sharing! I think I am going to have to take some BBQ smoked soup out of the freezer! Your show is great! I am making a lot more healthier foods that taste great! You are very inspiring and my food quality has improved to the point we do not go out to each much as it is better at home!
Thank you for making such a wonderful show that inspired a healthy and tasty lifestyle change!

No, it is educational video… She is not trying to be them or other things… In this case she educated us to that brands healthy choice. Youtube has a list of things you can do when making your videos if you would like more detail. I was wondering why some people blur out their stuff, I know some people do it as they don’t want to promote a particular company. One company even helped Betty make sure she could find her favorite mustard she used on her show… all good things!

Mouthwatering for sure. I touched the screen for a taste. haha
Betty — do you not …
Betty — do you not get in trouble for showing the labels of products? Some shows blur them out or turn the packaging around so the brand isn’t shown. I don’t see any negative impact of showing the brands but there might be some legal reason for why tv cooking shows hide the labels?
I find some bisques …
I find some bisques too smooth mainly the blended kind… its like baby food without chunks of seafood in there! Are the campbells Heathy Requests any lighter in MSG and sodium? I want to do a seafood gumbo or chowder one of these days but it gets expensive if you want to add in everything under the sea!
